Bola de nieve

Architect Le Monnier designed the first high-rise building in the city in 1906 to house the branch of the building society “Sociedad de Ahorro La Bola de Nieve” (“bola de nieve” is “snowball” in English).

Thus, a new way of inhabiting the incipient city began.
One of its most outstanding features is the way in which the corner is resolved: a cylindrical volume acts as a kind of “hinge,” joining the planes of the facades and culminating in a tempietto, a small temple-shaped frame with a sequence of columns supporting the dome.
On the dome stands the symbol of the “snowball” which crowns the structure.
The company’s name is inscribed in a frieze made of small mosaics of different colors.
