It was built in 1731.
In 1925 a stained glass window was displayed inside the church to honor Belgrano. The work is called "Creación y bendición de la Bandera Nacional en la Batería Libertad (1812)" and demonstrates an artistic representation of our flag being raised. Nowadays it can be seen in the entrance hall of the church.
It went from being a humble chapel dedicated to Our Lady to a present-day cathedral locally known as “Iglesia Catedral”. Whenever Manuel Belgrano visited Pago de los Arroyos (from 1810, 1811, 1812 and 1819) he would pray here.
