In 1854 the Cemetery “El Salvador” started to be built, under the direction of the engineer Timoteo Guillón. The cemetery had an increase in burials due to the closure of former graveyards, cholera epidemics and the Triple Alliance War.

The artistic and cultural complex has about 50,000 tombs distributed in 5 ha. In addition to the cemetery's own services, there are those cultural ones that offer tours that rescue the past of the city.
