Originally, there was another building that served as a station for the Cordoba – Rosario Railway, which laid the first rails in 1888.
The line ran North to the city of Rafaela, and then to Cordoba. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Company, together with other railway companies, formed the Central Cordoba Railway Company.
The central block of the original station, built in 1891 with a clear English influence, was destroyed in a fire. The reconstruction of the station was completed in 1926 with the construction of a dome covered with zinc files, under which a large clock was placed.
In 1948, the railway system was nationalized, and the railway lines were reconfigured, so that all the narrow-gauge (3.2 ft. width) lines were transferred to the General Belgrano Railway. In 1952, passenger trains were discontinued from this station, which now is the headquarters of the “Asociacion Rosarina Amigos del Riel” (“Friends of the Rail Association of Rosario”).
