At the beginning of the 20th century, this lodging called "Paradise," but popularly known as "Madame Safo" (after the name of the first acknowledged Bawd), was the most expensive and luxurious of the time.
Opened in 1916, the building had a large gallery supported by golden columns. It was the access to the opposing rooms facing a central patio, crowned by a skylight.
There are many stories about the venue, such as the visits of Carlos Gardel, Prince Umberto of Savoy (heir to the throne of Italy), President Marcelo T. de Alvear, among other politicians, writers, and singers who visited the city.
Over the years, the rooms, toilets, and indoor patios, among other spaces, were renovated, but its facade remains intact, as well as the ornamented wooden door, and some of the original indoor details, such as floors, doors, and windows.
Witness to the golden age of brothels, it is one of the few that remain in the neighborhood, honoring its origins.
