In the 1920s, the Argentine Agrarian Federation entrusted Architect J. B. Durand with the task of designing a building to house its headquarters in the center of the city.
It was inaugurated in 1927, with a clear classical academic layout marking the base, the main body and the top part with offices, apartments for travelers and an event hall.
To emphasize the importance of the main entrance, a wide staircase, and a corner finial with an open-drum dome were incorporated, which stood out noticeably in the low-rise urban landscape of Sarmiento Street at that time.
In the 1930s, the building’s ownership was transferred, and it became the headquarters of the provincial Ministry of Agriculture.
It now houses the Lavarden Hall, an important cultural venue.
