Foundation Stone

It was laid in 1902 to build the huge port that took up the whole downtown coast.

President Julio Argentino Roca laid the foundation stone in October 26th, 1902. The event was celebrated with a three-day party spanning all over the city. It was a huge construction work which included 2.5 miles of piers between 27 de Febrero Av. and Sarmiento St.
The plaque that commemorates the location of the foundation stone (currently part of Dr. Julio Marc Provincial Historical Museum’s collection) can be found on top of the cobblestones. On both sides, there are two old houses that formerly belonged to the port area. Going forward through Belgrano Av., visitors can find the old building of the Port Administration, which currently houses Canal 5 headquarters.
