Formerly known as "Bajada de los Carreteros" or "Bajada Vieja", this street was widened and paved in 1936, when works were also conducted on the riverbank.
The street connects Alberdi's main square with the Parana River banks, gently descending through the cliff.
Along the way, houses with a great architectural harmony are preserved, although one of them stands out for its uniqueness: the “Boat House.” This 1940s building was inspired by modern architecture. Its round porthole-windows and other nautical-style elements clearly evoke the shape of a boat, making it an architectural rarity and an unmissable point of interest for those who tour the area.
The downhill ride is particularly scenic, framed by sloping gardens and spanned by an 85-metre-long concrete pedestrian bridge, which was inaugurated in 1937.
This bridge not only connects both slopes and provides continuity to Alvarez Thomas St., but also serves as a natural viewpoint, offering a privileged view of the river. It is known as the Poet's Bridge, in tribute to the journalist and poet Emilio Grognet, known as the Poet of Rosario.
