At the beginning of the 20th Century, the Echesortu Recreo, a space where plays, dances and kermesses were performed, and where the young Argentine poet Alfonsina Storni recited her first poems, was located there.
The local cinema was in that same place. In summer, silent films and outdoor performances were set to the music of the piano played by the daughters of Mr. Jose Migliorati, an Italian who had the concession of the place since 1925. The sound film revolution arrived in 1930, but in 1936 the cinema closed its doors and reopened the following year as Palace Echesortu. The movie theatre opened on August 5th, 1937, and the tickets, which cost 70 cents in national currency, sold out quickly.
After 45 years of uninterrupted functions, the cinema closed its doors and in the mid-1980s, it became one of the most popular nightclubs in the city.
